How to make UGC-style videos without showing your face

Use hands, screen recordings and original narration to make a complete product explanation.

Choose a visible action

The absence of a face is not the creative idea. Pick an action worth watching: opening a package, adjusting a mechanism or completing a task in an app. Record the actual product so the visual gives useful information.

Write around the footage

Use narration to explain context the viewer cannot see. Avoid reading aloud every visible action. A simple structure is the problem, the demonstration and one relevant next step. Keep the script descriptive rather than inventing a customer story.

Review the evidence

Check that editing has not hidden an important step or made a result seem easier than it is. Label samples appropriately and confirm rights to voices, music and supplied footage. Faceless production can be clear and personal without pretending to be spontaneous customer content.

Your next brief

Put these decisions in writing before you start production. A short brief gives the creator and reviewer the same standard to work towards. Keep the approved source material with the final file so the next version can build on the work rather than start again.

  • Action. Film the part that explains the product.
  • Narration. Add context without repetition.
  • Accuracy. Preserve steps that affect the result.
