How to record a product demo people can follow

Plan a focused product demonstration: one task, accurate footage, readable captions and a clear next step.

Choose the useful moment

Write one sentence describing what the viewer should understand. “See how to approve a draft” is a workable brief. “Learn everything about our platform” is not. Choose a task that has a visible beginning and result.

Prepare the recording

  • Data. Use a demonstration account with no private customer information.
  • Framing. Make the relevant control or physical detail large enough to see.
  • Sequence. Write the few actions needed to complete the task.
  • Accuracy. Use the current product and name any access requirement.

A simple shot plan

BeatWhat to showWhat to say
ContextThe task before the changeName the problem in one sentence.
ActionThe actual product being usedExplain only what is not obvious.
ResultThe completed stateDescribe the visible result without exaggerating.
Next stepA relevant destinationInvite the viewer to explore this specific feature.

Edit without changing the truth

Remove waiting time when it adds nothing, but do not hide steps that affect the result. If processing takes time, show or state that clearly rather than implying an instant outcome. Keep captions readable and inspect the export on a small screen.

Use one recording in several ways

A master demo can support a short explanation, a question-led opening and a carousel of steps. Each version should make a different point while preserving the same facts. Save the original recording and approved script for later updates.
