Instagram Reels maker: plan the opening, edit and cover

Turn a useful idea into a Reel that works with sound, captions and a clear cover.

Start with the job

Plan the cover and first frame as different jobs. The cover helps someone choose the video from a profile or grid; the first frame needs to explain the subject when the video starts. Neither should promise an outcome the Reel cannot show.

A practical example

For a refillable bottle, show the lid mechanism in close-up, demonstrate the refill and end with cleaning instructions. Use an accurate cover such as “How this lid comes apart” instead of a vague teaser.

Illustrative brief, not a customer result or generated product output.

Build your brief

  • First frame. Make the object or task recognisable.
  • Captions. Check names and line breaks manually.
  • Cover. Use a concise title that matches the finished edit.

Review before publishing

Preview the post in its destination before publishing. Keep important text away from controls and check that the intended cover remains readable when cropped.

Keep the brief beside the finished creative. You should be able to point to the fact, image or product behaviour behind each statement. Save the approved version with its caption so later edits do not undo the review.
